Have you ever checked your book's word count, written a few paragraphs, then checked again? Well, then you've come to the right place. I'm obsessed too. It's okay, it's a disease ... but we'll get through it together.
Hi, I'm J.F. Wiegand (though my mother still calls me Jeffrey), the author of two middle grade novels: I'm Not Weird, I'm Just Quiet and Race to the Edge of the World. I created this website to help you better gauge your book's word count, because the more examples you see and the more advice you read, the more confident you'll be.
Can your word count disease be cured? Of course not; you're a word counter too and always will be. But it can be contained, so browse around until you feel confident enough to start writing without peeking at your word count every couple of paragraphs. And if you relapse, don't worry, I'll be here for you.
Oh, and if you know anyone that may be interested in one of my books, I'd appreciate you sharing. I handle the development and research for this website, but the occasional book sale does help with hosting costs. And I think they're good books, although the word count for Race to the Edge of the World is a bit high. I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I just can't help it!
